4th Meeting 2011-2012 - Merdeka Themed Meeting

Dear Fellow Toastmasters & Guests,

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

MERDEKA!!!
Happy Merdeka Everyone! Yesterday's meeting was definitely a night filled with patriotism! You can see our Malaysia flags EVERYWHERE! On the walls, on the tables, and even on some of our members' clothes! (Ahem, you know who you are! Yes, Christine & Kamal.. We know you love Malaysia!) To add cherry on top, our captain of the evening, Kamal Surin aka Danny Tra-botak even gave out Malaysia flag as door gifts to every participants! Thank you Kamal & also everyone for setting the mood for a great meeting to realize our dreams! That's the spirit of patriotism! A pat on the back everyone! :)

"Shiny" TME - Kamal Surin, ATM-G
"PERFECT practice makes perfect!" That's our thought of the evening! Very philosophical but yet, very very true! Yes, in order to deliver a perfect speech, no only we need to practice, we have to perfect our practice! Otherwise, we will be practicing something which is wrong until it's perfect! We don't want that, don't we? Thank you TM Nora Liew for the very philosophical quote! Then, came our highlight for the first session of the meeting, the Table Topic Session! Our table topic master is of course our ever humorous DTM Abu Bakar Sheriff! Thanks to our seasoned Table Topic Master, we had an enjoyable, fun & humorous session! And, we even made history! 3 person commented on the same table topic questions! Looked like our Table Topic Master has picked out some very interesting topic there!

Our 2nd session was filled with enthusiasm from 6 speakers, 3 speakers from the basic CC Manuals, and 3 speakers from the Advance Manuals. From our ice breaker speakers, TM Adeline Thien & TM Maxwell C Majalang have given us some sneak peeks about themselves. Yes, Adeline, I know now you're a 'kedekut' monkey! And Yes, Maxwell, we now know that scars can tell stories too! :). Our CL Raffaelia (Not Competent Leader, but Competent LIAR) also taught us how to lie confidently.. Just relax (Don't touch your hair & remain eye contact) and breathe deeply! Then, of course yours truly who has given a toast to our incoming International President, DTM Dr John Lau. CC Jamie also told us the truth behind ghosts & superstitious! And it's ok to break some mirrors! Last but not least, CC Sophia has told us something about Murphy's Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong!

Maxwell giving his Ice Breaker Speech: "Each scar represents something in my life."

Sophia: "I left my coffee on top of my car!"

Even though all the speakers were nervous, I would still like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the speakers for not using any notes during your speech. However, like TM Nora Liew has mentioned earlier, perfect practice makes perfect. Thus, I would like to encourage all speakers and future speakers to perfect your practices so that your delivery will be more polish & within time allotted! :)

Fellow Toastmasters and guests, how could we end the meeting without giving out any awards, right? This meeting, we have given out 4 awards, ie Best Dress for Male & Female & Best Speakers for CC & Advance Manuals. And the awards were given to... (Drum roll please.... ):

1) Best Dress (Male): TM Nanthakumar Kumaresan
2) Best Dress (Female): DTM Christine Yap
3) Best Speaker (CC Manual): Competent Liar TM Raffaelia Yong
4) Best Speaker (Advance Manual): Ghostbuster CC Jamie Chieng

Our Best Dress Male & Female Winners

Our Ghostbuster CC Jamie Chieng won the Best Speaker Award for the Advance Manuals
Competent Liar Taffy won herself the Best Speaker Award for the CC Manual
Thank you for celebrating the Merdeka Day with us and how can a meeting be complete without a group photo, right? So, say cheese everyone!

Till then, take care, God Bless & Let's realize more dreams in the following meeting!

3rd Meeting 2011-2012

Dear Fellow Toastmasters & Guests,

PRAGMATIC is definitely not enough to describe our 3rd meeting last night! We had such an amazing meeting yesterday, didn’t we?  It was fun, amusing, entertaining, humorous, informative… All in all, it was just AWESOME!! A big THANK YOU to TME Sophia Hong and all the kindred 44 members and guests who came and chipped in their little flavour.

Word of the Evening - Pragmatic

Our Enthusiastic TME - CC Sophia Hong
The meeting started off with a very meaningful invocation: “Live a purpose driven life”. Yes, a lot of us always dabble our way through life. We never have a goal/dream. Thank you DTM Yee for reminding us to find a dream/purpose in life and realize them! Then came one of our highlights of the meeting, the Table Topic Session. People always say that Table Topic Session is the scariest session of the whole meeting. But, thanks to our TT Master, we had a relax yet fun session! The whole table topic session just turned into another humour session! From Rugby Coach, Kirksman Teo giving his inspiring speech to the boys (Yes Kirks, we are no Snollygoster, WE ARE SnollyMONSTERS!), to Crocodile Hunter Jackie Miao who introduced us a new species (During the process, her partner, Jim lost his hand.. Oops.. :( ).. Thanks to all the participants, now I know that 1) good monster = snollygoster (As per our guest, Selva), 2) Chicks + duck eggs = kaya? or crudivore? (As per DTM TC Lim), and 3) If you want Siva to stop talking, just tie his hands (As per CTM Sivakumar) :p Well done everyone and also our Table Topic Master, TM Vijay!

Then, the next highlight of our meeting: The manual speeches. From our newest member, TM Ahmad Izzat told us a bit about himself and his hidden talent, his fashion sense. Yes, Izzat, we will be waiting for you to come up with your own fashion line one day! Then, TM Nora Liew told us how to squeeze the juice from our RM1 million jackpot! Last, but not least, TM Sam told us about his Sendai Project and how to get a free T-shirt as a bonus! :) Wonderful speeches & most importantly, all the speakers did not use any notes! GREAT JOB! I’m so proud of all of you!

Awards & Ribbons!

The Lemon Squeezer - TM Ahmad Izzat

Thank you Sam for telling us about the Sendai Project
We also gave out some surprise awards at the meeting, ie Best Humour Award and Best Enthusiasm Award! And the winners are: TM Kirksman Teo (Best Enthusiasm Award) and TM Jackie Miao (Best Humour Award).

Best Humour Award Winner - TM Jackie Miao

Best Enthusiasm Award Winner - TM Kirksman Teo
Yes, just like what TM Izzat has mentioned earlier, when life gives you lemon, why squeeze lemonade when you can make lemon cake? Yup.. Why have a good meeting only when we can have an awesome meeting like this one? So, let’s continue to make our future meetings as awesome as it can be and realize more dreams!

Our Must Have session after Meeting!
Till then, take care & God Bless!

Besides our club meeting every 2nd and 4th Tuesday night, we also organized some trainings and workshops for sharpening our members' skill in public speaking.

On a nice Sunday afternoon 7th August 2011, KKTMC had organized their first speechcraft workshop of the term.

Our trainer is none other than our LGET, DTM Richard A. Gontusan.

Thank you,  Richard!!

DTM Richard A. Gontusan

Our organizers CC Joanna Liew and CC Jamie Chieng. Thank you!! Without our organizer, this workshop would not be successful.

And Yes!! They brought us to the HARVARD room for training.

2nd Meeting of the term 2011-2012 and EGM

This is a long overdue post of KKTMC's club meeting which was our 2nd club meeting of the new term 2011-2012.

This is our TME for the 2nd Meeting of the Term - CC Jamie Chieng

We have a total attendance of 32 participants for our 2nd meeting. What's special about this meeting is that, we have a lot of special guests: We have guests from IEC, thanks to Jasmine & Teacher Lusi, a Toastmaster, all the way from California, US, Mdm Winniefred and  a long lost guest, who used to be our member back in 1998DTM Dr Reddey  Thank you for making the  effort to come. Your attendance really meant a lot to us! :)

Simple effort but Powerful Message from TM Fia Iskandar

This meeting started with a very simple yet meaningful invocation, prepared by our first timer InvocatorTM Fia Iskandar: "Listen, Lest Thy Tongue Makes Thee Deaf." Yes, as Toastmasters, we tend to talk too much sometimes. Thank you Fia for reminding us the importance of listening. :)

The highlight of the meeting is of course the 4 speakers, yours truly included, who dared themselves to stand in front of the audience and presented their speeches. From TM Sabrina who has made her 1st baby step in her toastmaster journey to introduce herself, to yours truly who has told you the story of my 14th birthday & my birthday present - Walkman, to TM Lisa who has told us a language that's known by all people around the world - Music and of course, to ACS Jasminewho has taught us the art & beauty of visualization!

TME Jamie Chieng and ACS Jasmine Leong

TME Jamie Chieng and  CC, Joanna Liew

Yes, like what Jasmine has mentioned, visualization is a very important tool to success. Before our 2nd meeting, I visualized that this meeting is going to be fun, lively, vibrant, and full of laughter. And, thanks to all the members as well as all the guests, our 2nd meeting was successfully held and was everything like what I've visualized. Thank you for chipping in your ideas, ie. substitute your life partner as your pet - by TC, go for Qi Gong, or join Toastmasters when you're stress and etc.

Our Best Topic Speaker - DTM TC Lim

Toastmasters meeting is indeed a journey of discovery and actualization of dreams and potentials. So many dreams were realized yesterday & I would like to invite everyone of you to come to our 3rd meeting of the term, under the leadership of our kapten aka TME, CC Sophia Hong on 9th August 2011 to realize more dreams!
