Fellow Toastmasters, ladies and gentlemen,

March 1990; 24 years ago, they brought Kota Kinabalu Toastmasters Club into the world. This Charter Night themed 18th Meeting of the Term 2013-2014 we Bring out the Magic as we celebrate the 24th Anniversary of our Club. Hosted by our very own Charter Member, Abu Bakar Sheriff, DTM and his Team of Role Players, the members, family & friends of Kota Kinabalu Toastmasters Club Excel Through Particip-Action

Joining us this meeting are;
*Division K Governor Ophelia Domingo

*Area K4 Governor Micheal Mutukasin of Api-api Toasmasters Club
*Johan Amilin, ACS, ALB of IFCA Toastmasters Club
*Family & friends of Kota Kinabalu Toastmasters Club
Thank you for coming to our club, and thank you members, for inviting friends to share the evening with us.

This meeting, the Table Topics Session was conducted by our not-so-baby-anymore member TM Kamilia Kamaruzaman. I feel myself reflect on many different aspects of my life as I listen to her questions, and the members & guests Stand Up and Be Counted as they answer the questions;
i) Why fit in when you were born to stand out?
ii) Is there a time when giving up ever make sense?
iii) When you think of home, what specifically do you think of?
iv) How have Toastmasters changed you life?
Thank you TM Kamilia. It's a pleasure to see you in action. :)

We also had the pleasure of listening to four of our members embark on the speeches;

TM Joseph Raj spoke on  Nadi Shodhan Pranayama; Breathe In, Breathe Out.
Intan Salwana Anis, CC spoke on The Day I Lost My Temper; take charge of your life, and do not let others take away who you really are.
Nora Liew, CC did a mock up of a radio interview; and she was representing the Organising Committee of the Borneo Marathon.
Nanthakumar Kumaresan, CC delivered his ACB10 entitled 32850 hours. Dreams; Believe in it, have the courage, and just do it.

With the completion of his ACB10, he is now known as Advance Communicator Bronze Nanthakumar Kumaresan. You Shine with Joy as you prove that persistence, effort and diligence pay off. As mentioned by Past President Joanna Liew, we can see the difference from your first five speeches in the Competent Communicator Manual, and how you have progressed towards your final speech in you Advance Communicator Bronze Manual. We wish you a safe journey is India, and let the friendship grow through the distance :)

General Evaluator Vijay Panickar, and Team of Exco 2013-2014, good job on making the preparations for the meeting; indeed, United We Stand to Grow & Succeed.

Attached are some photos taken during our meeting :)

Till our next meeting, (tomorrow!), thank you for Loving the Journey :)

KKTMC International Speech and Table Topics Contests 2014 (28.02.14)

Dear Fellow Toastmasters,

First and foremost I would like to congratulate the winners of the KKTMC INTERNATIONAL SPEECH and TABLE TOPICS CONTESTS 2014, held last Friday at Celyn Hotel City Mall.
For the Table Topics Contest, the winners are:
Champion: FIA BINTI ISKANDAR
First Runner Up: Shahar Banon Hassan
Second Runner Up: Jeremiah Mojuntin

For the International Speech Contest*
Champion: NORA LIEW
Runner Up: Fia Binti Iskandar
*only two winners are announced as there are only 4 contestants in this category.

CONGRATULATIONS Champions and GOOD LUCK in the Area Level Table Topics and International Speech Contests 2014 this Saturday, 8th March 2014

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the role players for making sure the event runs smoothly.  Without the Contest Chair to chair the contest, timers to keep time, the judges to judge, the tally counters to calculate, and the sergeant-at-arms to control and manage the room, “it would just be the speakers speaking to the walls” to quote our President Fia Iskandar's words

Kudos to all the speakers for taking up the challenge on competing.  Speaking in a contest setting is very different than speaking in a normal meeting environment. You learn so much more about yourself and sometimes you might even discover something new that you never knew existed in yourself, maybe discovering your hidden ability to sing like a pigeon? Entering a competition is not just about the trophies, it is what you make out of your experience that has a deeper value. Getting a trophy is a plus point, however if you did not take home a trophy, never ever give up. Keep on trying and there is always something new to
learn each time.

In toastmasters we learn by doing. Just by being there, whether you are a role player or a speaker, the knowledge and experience you gained are very precious.  So congratulations to all for being there.

I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to the people who have encouraged and mentored me to take up this role as organizing chairperson. Thank you President Fia, Vice President Education Vijay and my mentor Nora Ridzwan for trusting me with this role even though I am only a couple of months old as a KKTMC member.  One of the many good things about KKTMC is it helps you grow professionally, and at the same time it appreciates your talents and personalities. I learned a lot as the organizing chair that I am sure I wouldn’t learn anywhere else.  Thanks a bunch for the opportunity.

Attached are the some photos of the contest.

Best Regards,
Kamilia Kamaruzaman

KKTMC 15th Meeting of the Term 2013-2014... From the Heart

If music is the food of love, play on.
~Shakespeare

Thank you Table Topics Master, TM Joseph Raj for bringing that quote to our meeting. Beautiful :)

Fellow Toastmasters, ladies and gentlemen,

Gong Xi Fa Cai, Jinnian Kuaile, and Happy Chap Goh Meh. I hope the 15 days celebration meant as much to you as it meant to me. Visiting and wishing friends, from near and far :)

Thank you to our Toastmaster of the Evening Eilvane Chieng and her team of role players, for hosting this Description: https://mail.google.com/mail/e/B60Chinese New Year themed, 15th Meeting of the Term 2013-2014 Description: https://mail.google.com/mail/e/B60 I love seeing all the men and ladies come dressed in their traditional Chinese costume. I’ve always thought ladies in Cheongsam look so elegant and beautiful; and this evening, is no different.

Two of our members delivered their speechs:

TM Emylia Phillip delivered a speech entitled, “My Everything”. Telling us about her pet dog, Molly, she played with her Vocal Variety in the test of completing her Speech #6.

In his ACB6, Speech Project #4 Moral of the Story, Nanthakumar Kumaresan, CC retold the story of the “Three Little Pigs”.

The Table Topics Session was conducted by our TTM Joseph Raj.

He threw us with a few questions ranging from the theme, CNY to the random questions pertaining to the world.

Jasmine Leong, DTM proved her impavid (scratch that), impavidness (scratch that), impavidity (that's the right one!) when she raised her hand to the very first question posted by the TTM; “Is there a link between the colour red and prosperity?” Good job VPE Vijay Panickar- for putting Jas in that position. Keep it up :P

Intan Salwana Anis, CC shared with us the benefits of eating Mandarin Oranges; high in Vitamin C, and etc…

Nanthakumar Kumaresan, CC told us how difficult it was for him to get leave during CNY, and how he had to cover extra shifts to make up for it. But it was all worth it as he get to spend his time with family and friends during the festive season.

Eilvane Chieng, CC elaborated on the quote by Shakespeare; “If music is the food of love, play on.” She claims that she does not play much musical instruments, but she sings. And as I know her; Eilvane sings her heart out :)

TM Kamilia Kamaruzaman answered the question, “Is Facebook a boon or a bane?”. She told us, how she finds (the few people on her friends list) who updates their status per hour, annoying. Oops :D

Ily Mumtaz Iskandar, CC, CL (visiting member from Monash University Toastmasters Club) reverted to the question “Is it possible to hide your Facebook activity from your spouse?” in her case, her mother. She stated that, there's something that she cannot let her mother know, that means she shouldn't be doing that something at all.

Immediate Past President Jamie Chieng answered the question about how important education is. Being in the education system herself, she strongly agree with the statement “Education is a Powerful Weapon” by Nelson Mandela.

At the end of the meeting, Grammarian Richard A. Gontusan gave a very comprehensive report. Thank you DTM Richard, I always learn so much from your grammarian reports. Always.

Thank you DTM Ronald Tang for the General Evaluation. And for coming dressed to the theme, too! :))

The winners for Best Dressed are:

Best Dressed Male: VPE Vijay Panickar
Best Dressed Female: TME EIlvance Chieng

Special thanks to our members, IPP Jamie Chieng, VPE Vijay Panickar, VPM Nora Liew, TM Dean Yee, Secretary Fauziah Mat Noor, and DTM Yee That Hian (all the way from Australia!) for inviting guests over to the meeting.

We also have the privilege to have a few visiting members from China; Rolf Chew, DTM and Monica Chew, DTM. Woots!

Attached are the little photos I can fit into this email. Don't forget to see how much of havoc Eilvane caused in her warm up session!! Hahaha :D More photos on Facebook -->  https://www.facebook.com/groups/kktoastmastersclub/

KKTMC 14th Meeting of the Term 2013-2014... From the Heart

"The first step into achieving your goal, is to believe and imagine that you're there"
~TM Jeremiah Mojuntin

Fellow Toastmasters, ladies and gentlemen,

Before we proceed with our 15th Meeting of the Term, happening tomorrow, let's recap on our Description: https://mail.google.com/mail/e/B6014th Meeting of the TermDescription: https://mail.google.com/mail/e/B60 which was successfully held on the 28th January 2014, hosted by our favourite (did I mean my favourite?) Nora Liew, CC.

She started off the meeting, announcing that the theme of the meeting was, "Don't Worry, Be Happy". And then she brought us all to stand up and dance to the song, "Don't Worry, Be Happy". Though I couldn't quite join in the beat, I observed that everyone had a good laugh. Their muscles sure were eased. Thanks Nora, for the light and easy warm up session :)

In his Speech #3 from the Competent Communicator Manual, TM Jeremiah Mojuntin spoke on "Overthinking and Overdaydreaming". Thank you JJ; your imagination sure is, the Description: https://mail.google.com/mail/e/B60QuintessenceDescription: https://mail.google.com/mail/e/B60 of you.

TM Emylia Marianne Phillip's Speech #5, also from the the Competent Communicator Manual was entitled "Wise Decisions". Her 3 powerpoints are;
1. Make a plan;
2. Have an accountability partner
3. Set a deadline

Yours truly delivered her ACB9; Project #4 A Touching Story from the Storytelling Manual. Entitled "Beside You", she retold the story of how her Mother supported her Father through the finish line in the exam for the 2nd DAN Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

This meeting, we caught a few Toastmasters Family (by blood, seriously) present. Among them are:
1. Our very own Past President of the Club; Francis Tham, DTM & Daughter, Kimberley Tham
2. TM Joseph Raj and her daughters, Julia Raj and Judith Raj

4. The Iskandar Family; Iskandar Ahmad, DTM, Fauziah Mat Noor, CTM, CL, Ily Mumtaz Iskandar, CC, CL & the rest of the crew....................

Wasn't it a Quintessence to attend such a meeting with the strong seniors present? For me, it sure is :) And oh! Thank you Madam Grammarian Jamie Chiengfor the word of the evening.

Below are a few moments captured during our meeting. Check 'em out!
